THE LAW WAS OUR SCHOOL MASTER

THE LAW

THE LAW WAS OUR SCHOOL MASTER

TEXT: Gal. 3:24-26.
Wherefore, the law was our school master to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith Gal. 3:24.

INTRODUCTION

The work of a school master is to tutor the student until the student becomes mature and qualifies in his chosen area of concentration. This is what the school masters do when we enter into any institute of learning. They expose us into various aspects of knowledge until we can stand tall everywhere as qualified professionals. The Apostle Paul, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit saw the journey of the sinner towards justification as a journey made under the instruction of the law as a school master (Gal, 3:22-24).

LESSON PRESENTATION:

1. BEFORE FAITH CAME, WE WERE KEPT UNDER THE LAW: Gal 3:22-25

2. THE HEIR AS A CHILD DIFFERENTH NOTHING FROM A SERVANT: Gal 4:1-7

1. BEFORE FAITH CAME, WE WERE KEPT UNDER THE LAW: Gal 3:22-25

Before faith came, we were kept under the law We were not aware of the faith in the finished work of Christ which would be revealed at the right time (Gal. 3:23)

The Law was there to let us know when we have sinned against God and to ask for forgiveness. The law thus became our school master, teaching us what is right and what is wrong until we come to know Christ (Gal 3:24) When faith comes, that is faith in the finished work of Christ the suffering he under went and the death He died on the cross at Calvary to pay for our sins, we become justified before God (v. 24). At this point, we no longer need the school master, but to keep on living by faith in Christ Jesus (Gal 3:25, 26).

THE LAW WAS OUR SCHOOL MASTER

2. THE HEIR AS A CHILD DIFFERENTH NOTHING FROM A SERVANT: Gal, 4:1-7.

The heir is the rightful owner of whatever that belongs to the father. But when he is a child, he does not know his rights He lives like a servant, even servants control him Whatever they give him to eat he eats, whatever they command him to do, he does. He is not different from servants in the house. He is left under tutors and governors until he is of age, then would he begin to reign (Gal 4:1.2) Even so, when we were children we did not know our rights. We were in bondage to the elements of the world. But when the fullness of time came, God sent His son to redeem those that were under the law, so that we would receive adoption of Sons (Gal 4:3-5).
Now as Sons of God, though by adoption, God sends His Spirit into us whereby we can cry 'Abba, Father. So, are no longer servants, through Christ (Gal. 4:6,7).

CONCLUSION:
As matured people in Christ, we are no longer under our school master, the law. We are now under grace. This grace comes through faith in the work of redemption done by Christ. This is our justification before God.
